At the 2016 New York Auto Show, the automaker revealed the newest version of the Grand Cherokee in its top trim levels, the Summit and Trailhawk. The first of these is ideal for optimizing luxury while the second maximizes off-road capability. Even with limited information about the other trim levels, we know a great deal about the 2017 Grand Cherokee based on what we saw of these two models.

Interior Features and Options

Since the 2017 Grand Cherokee Summit is the most luxurious trim level of this SUV, it gives you a good idea of all the available features for the Dayton Jeep dealers. The newest large SUV features a full leather interior with welting along the edges and a design featuring diamond-style elements to create an upscale feel. The dashboard can be wrapped in Nappa leather, as are the door panel and console components. To complete the premium interior, Jeep throws in Berber carpet mats and a suede headliner in the Summit trim.

The interior of the Trailhawk trim stands out with badging for the steering wheel and red contrast stitching. The performance seats feature suede and leather, and the accents combine gunmetal finish with brushed piano black.

Off-Road Capabilities

To get a glimpse of what the newest Jeep Grand Cherokee can do when going off the beaten path, just look at the Trailhawk. This trim level is new for the Grand Cherokee but can be seen around the Miami Valley on the Cherokee and Renegade. As on those smaller SUVs, the Trailhawk designation on the Grand Cherokee means that your vehicle is ready for any off-road adventure.

This model also has as much as 10.8 inches’ worth of ground clearance and 18-inch off-road tires from Goodyear Adventure, although you can also get 20-inch versions.

Some of those features, like the Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system, electronic limited slip differential, and Quadra-Lift air suspension, are also available on other trim levels. For example, the Summit comes with these off-road tools as standard.

Exterior Styling

As always, the Grand Cherokee will have unique exterior feature depending on the trim level that you choose to drive. The Trailhawk has styling to ensure everyone knows which vehicle you are driving. These elements include red tow hooks, off-road tires, a roof rack, and plenty of badging, along with gray accents for the roof rack and mirror housings. The exterior of the Summit trim is largely familiar with just some minor tweaks to the front end and new 20-inch wheels.

Technology

The 8.4-inch Uconnect system found in the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee provides infotainment. In the Trailhawk, it also gives off-roading information, such as wheel articulation, Selec-Terrain mode, and suspension height. Other available technology includes safety features, like blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and perpendicular and parallel park assist. There is also an available 19-speaker system from Harman Kardon.
