The 2017 Jeep Compass is available, and has already made its official debut, meaning that drivers can get an excellent idea of what to expect from this updated compact SUV. The 2017 Compass made its world debut in Brazil on Sept. 26. Around the world, there will be a total of 17 different powertrain options available in over 100 countries. While not all of these configurations are available in the United States, American drivers will still get more than enough options. You should expect the 2017 Compass to arrive in the beginning of 2017, so you don’t have much longer to wait to get behind the wheel. It will be available as either a Sport or Latitude trim.

Most Capable SUV

Among compact SUVs, the 2017 Jeep Compass will be the most capable, delivering exceptional performance regardless of the weather. It has the capabilities that you have come to expect from Jeep models and can even achieve 30 miles per gallon. For those who plan to take their Compass off-road, the Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package is perfect with its Trail Rated 4×4 capabilities that can’t be beat. This package ensures that you can tackle trails with ease and handle tough weather conditions.

Multiple Drivetrains

Jeep is continuing its tradition of offering multiple drivetrains on its SUVs with the newest Compass. Those who want the best fuel economy will enjoy the 4×4 drivetrain. Those looking for a 4×4 can pick from Freedom Drive I and Freedom Drive II, both of which have full-time active 4×4. Freedom Drive I has a lock mode, and it is perfect for daily use, particularly in slippery light snow or rain. This drivetrain has a lockable center coupling so you can lock it into four-wheel drive and tackle low-traction surfaces, like sand and deep snow. Freedom Drive II is ideal if you are going off-road and plan to tackle steep grades or climb rocks and/or logs. When paired with the Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package, you get an overall crawl ratio of 19:1.

Other Mechanical Components

The numerous configurations offered on the 2017 Jeep Compass continue to expand when you look at the transmission options. Those who prefer manuals will love the 5-speed manual transmission while others may want to opt for the Powertech 6-speed automatic transmission. Of course, there is still a CVT2 available for drivers who want to take advantage of this newer type of gearbox. If you opt for the Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package, you can even get a continuously variable transaxle featuring a low range known as the CVT2L. Thanks to its powerful engine and sturdy structure, the Compass can tow as much as 2,000 pounds despite its compact size.

The standard powertrain is a 2-liter I4 World Engine with 158 horsepower and a torque of 141 pound-feet, which works with the 5-speed manual transmission. You can also get 172 horsepower from the available 2.4-liter I4 with 16 valves, dual variable valve timing, and a DOHC design.

Safety and Security

The 2017 Compass will be available with more than 30 different features related to safety and security. You can relax while driving knowing that your Jeep will protect you so you can focus on the road.
