Opening the hood in a 2012 Jeep Compass is not difficult, but it can be very tricky if you don’t know where to look for the hood release lever. Use the following instructions to open the hood in a 2012 Jeep Compass:

1. Locate the hood release lever. This is below the instrument panel, below the steering wheel on the left, in front of the driver’s door
2. Once you locate the hood release lever, pull the level to release the hood
3. Go to the front of the Jeep Compass. Carefully raise the hood and find the safety latch. This should be in the middle of the hood opening
4. Move the safety latch at the same time as lifting the hood
5. Locate the support rod and place it into the slot on the hood to hold the hood up
6. To close the hood, carefully remove the support rod from the slot and replace into the retaining clip.
7. Gently lower the hood, while watching to not catch your fingers!NOTE: before driving your Jeep Compass again, make sure that the hood is completely latched. If it is not latched securely, you may run the risk of the hood popping open when in motion and blocking your view. This can result in serious injury, and other high-risk situations.
