2015 Ram ProMaster City: Ready To To Haul Cargo and Children
Are you a business owner with cargo to cart around town? Are you a busy parent driving kids from hockey practice to ballet class? Whether you have dozens of floral baskets to haul or kids with armloads of sports equipment, the 2015 Ram ProMaster City is the right van for you.
The ProMaster City model is a smaller version of Ram’s full-size van, the ProMaster. The sleek-looking van is based off the Fiat Doblo, an established, popular model in Europe. It won the Van of the Year award in Europe twice.
The van is built for driving, not only hauling. It has a 2.4-liter, Tigershark four-cylinder engine. It comes in at 178 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. The van can even go from from zero to 60 miles per hour in 9.8 seconds. For drivers less interested in sprinting, the vehicle goes from zero to 30 in 3.7 seconds. The ProMaster City is a front-wheel drive vehicle with a nine-speed automatic transmission. It has a front independent suspension and rear coil springs for a smooth ride.
The ProMaster City comes in two versions. One version for cargo and one for passengers. The aptly named Tradesman Cargo is the cargo version. It has a single row of seats designed for two people. It can handle 131.7 cubic feet of cargo volume. The space measures 60.4 inches wide and 87.2 inches deep. The space between the rear wheel wells is 48.8 inches. The van has an impressive maximum payload of 1,883 pounds. The doors are a 60/40-split. They typically open 90 degrees, but if a release is pushed, they can open 180 degrees.
The passenger version of the ProMaster City is a two row, five passenger wagon. Despite the room taken up by the second bench, the cargo capacity is still significant. The storage space is four feet deep with the seat up and almost six feet deep if the rear bench is folded down.
The cargo and passenger versions each come in two trims: Tradesman Cargo, Tradesman Cargo SLT, Wagon and Wagon SLT. The SLT versions have fog lights, body-colored bumpers and side mirrors, a silver grille and 16-inch alloy wheels. Rear windows are standard for the passenger trims and an option for the cargo trims. Other options available for the van include park assist, a back-up camera, GPS navigation, the Uconnect system and SiriusXM satellite radio.
Information about vehicle pricing will be available in a few months. Models of the 2015 ProMaster City will begin appear in late 2014, but likely will not be widely available until 2015. Keep an eye out for this snazzy new van. It’s going to be exciting.
