Before anything else, make sure to gather your materials and tools. Be sure to have several screwdrivers, with various heads just in case: Philips, flathead, and Torx. Since the door is attached with snaps and clips, you will need a thin yet durable utensil for prying. Perhaps try a small putty knife or another screwdriver.
Next, you will want to remove the screws. In the door panel of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, there are three screws. Be on the lookout for a Philips head screw in the door pull tray, one that is neighboring to the side mirror, and a Torx screw that is behind the door handle.
Next, you’ll detach the panel from the door. Use your tool (like the putty knife) to pry the panel away from the door. You should hear a snapping noise which is the sound of the clips which holds the door on. As long it is not extremely cold, the clips should not break. Use the knife or other tool to work your away around the entire panel. Make sure the panel does not hang from the door since there are many important wires that you do not want to rip.
You will find a pair of actuator rods that clip to the door, and are locked in place with a plastic yellow retainer clip. You can easily pry them from the rod by using your hands. They should life right out of the socket.
Just opposite of the power window controls on the inside of the door, you will find a white plastic housing. This serves as a plug to provide power to the windows and door locks as well as provide commands. You should pull this plug apart.
Finally, gently pull the door panel away from the vehicle and set it somewhere safe. Perhaps lay a cloth down so it does not scratch on hard or rough surfaces.
