When you decide that it is time to buy a new Chrysler or another vehicle, you will probably want to save some money by trading in your old model at the same time. Doing this can take a sizeable chunk of the price off of your new vehicle, making it much easier to afford or letting you opt for more features. To make the most out of your trade-in, you can do a few things to maximize the value of your Chrysler or other model.
Keep up with Maintenance and Records
One of the most important things that affect the value of any used car is how well it has been maintained. If you want to get the most money for your old car, it should be in good condition, and the best way to ensure this is performing regular maintenance. This isn’t a very complicated task; simply follow the guidelines listed in your owner’s manual. If you lost your owner’s manual and can’t find the maintenance schedule to follow, look online or ask the mechanics at your dealership.
Also remember to also take your car to your local service center any time you notice an odd sound or vibration or if a warning light comes on. To get the best value on your trade-in, you need to do a bit more than just keep up with maintenance, however. Be sure to keep records, as well, so you can prove that you had this maintenance done.
Make Minor Repairs
It doesn’t make sense to fix every little issue with your car before trading it in; that simply isn’t feasible. Instead, just make an effort to take care of smaller issues. If you notice lots of scratches or minor dents on the hood, have them touched up. Or change the windshield wipers and make sure your tires are inflated. These small things will require little time and effort on your part, but they can increase the trade-in value by several hundred dollars or more.
Clean It up Regularly and Before Selling
In addition to following the maintenance schedule on your car, you want to clean it regularly to keep up its value. Keeping the exterior of your auto clean protects the paint from debris, sunlight, and other issues. It also prevents the metal underneath from becoming exposed and rusting, something that could dramatically lower the value of your car. Interior cleaning can ensure that the upholstery, dashboard, and other interior elements are also in great shape. Essentially, your car will look younger if it is cleaned regularly and waxed at least twice a year.
Don’t forget to have your car cleaned professionally or detail it yourself right before trading it in, as well. This shouldn’t cost much but will make a big difference in the value of the trade-in. After all, a clean car shows that it was well cared for. Additionally, the dealership doesn’t have to worry about whether a certain stain will come out. Since the service staff doesn’t have to put in the effort to clean your vehicle, the dealership will offer a better price.
