Overview
The Jeep Cherokee will be equipped with 4×4 capability unlike any other mid-sized SUV on the market. The Jeep Cherokee will have four different 4×4 systems, making the Jeep Cherokee the most capable mid-size SUV on the market to date. The SUV will be the first to incorporate a feature known as rear-axle disconnect. When driving the Jeep Cherokee in 4×4 mode, the SUV will seamlessly disconnect the rear axle to enhance gas mileage without sacrificing off-road performance. If the SUV senses that 4×4 is necessary, the rear axle will automatically reconnect to the front axle for true 4×4 driving.
Towing Capability
The Jeep Cherokee offers the best in class towing capability at 4,500 pounds. This rating is based on the V6 3.2-liter Penstar engine which produces 271 horsepower. As you can see on the picture, the Cherokee will have the ability for two different trailer hitch types, a bumper hitch, and a hitch which attaches directly to the chaise. For the bumper hitch, the ball will be located in front of the license plate. But for optimum performance, it is recommended that a hitch connected to the chaise will allow for safe towing.
