From working at Paul Sherry Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, I am constantly get asked from friends and family near Dayton about what advice I might have about purchasing a new car. This is the advice I give for them when they are browsing car dealers near Dayton.

Being in the market for a new car can be exciting for anyone, especially when you first make the decision. From a car dealer’s perspective, you’ve crossed what we call the Zero Moment of Truth. This is where dealers make the most money from car buyers. Why? Because most likely the shopper didn’t shop around, and you are probably in the “heat of the moment.” Consumers do this because it’s what they feel comfortable doing, and it’s normal for any shopper naturally lean toward what’s comfortable. This allows for the largest profit margins for a any new car dealer. Avoid buying the first car you see!

What most consumers don’t know is that new car dealers get their vehicles at the same price. It’s not about going somewhere with the most commercials, it’s about shopping around and finding just the right dealership.

How do you know you are getting a good price on a new car? Simple, shop around. The internet is always a good place to start looking. Not only car you compare prices, but also compare previous car shopping experience from local dealers.

Where do you start shopping for your new car? Cars.com. This is the place to go to know your getting the best price. Cars.com has the most new cars naturally list by the critieria you select. Some car listing websites, like AutoTrader, put cars higher listed on the website if a dealer pays more. So when you “sort by price” on their website, the cars aren’t truly sorted by price, they are priced by how dealers pay the website. Naturally, some dealers pay AutoTrader more, and in turn, you pay more for your new car.

How to find the dealer near you. Reviews are always the go to source for finding the truth about a car dealership. From my experience in the car industry, the most credible sources for reviews are Google Places, or Cars.com. These two places are more likely to have numerous reviews, and show the best reflection of a dealership’s reputation.
