Ever experience those days when seems as if people forget how to drive as soon as it starts to rain? The weather man keeps saying how desperately we need rain, so when it comes you should know how to stay safe while driving in wet weather conditions.
Whether in a big SUV like your new 2012 Jeep Compass or 2012 Dodge Journey, or a smaller sedan like your new 2013 Dodge Dart or 2012 Chrysler 200, it is important to know how to drive in all types of weather.
- Similarly to winter snowy weather, make sure to keep a little extra distance between you and the car in front of you. A good rule to follow is keeping 4-5 seconds in between the car in front.
- Watch for spray from larger vehicles, like semi-trucks.
- Make sure to turn on your head lights so you have better driving vision and so other cars can see you better. Also, it is the law!
- If you approach a road that is flooded, never attempt to cross it. Turn around a try to find another route. Just a few inches of fast flowing water can carry away a smaller vehicle.
- If a road happens to be closed, do not try to move or drive around the barricades. They are there for a reason! Your safety comes first
- In areas with standing water, try not to drive too fast. The faster you drive, the more likely it is for you to hydroplane or lose control of your vehicle.
- Watch for debris in the road. Trees and limbs have a tendency to fall during large storms.
- If you come across a power line that has fallen, do NOT try to move the line. Contact your local authorities to notify them of this dangerous situation.
