Jeep Wagoneer vs Grand Wagoneer: What’s The Difference

Earlier this year, Jeep announced both the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer, two luxury vehicles with third-row seating and an array of features that add upscale elements to the brand’s lineup. But what’s the difference between the Jeep Wagoneer and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer? Although Jeep is keeping the full details for each under wraps for now, we do know a few key features and differences to expect in the two models:

Jeep Wagoneer

jeep wagoneer grand wagoneerHistorically, the Jeep Wagoneer was the very first 4×4 SUV, but it hasn’t returned for production since the early 1990s. Its reintroduction into the Jeep lineup is certainly a welcome one, giving the manufacturer a luxury option to meet almost any Jeep fan’s needs.

The Jeep Wagoneer and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer will essentially be two trim levels for the same model. The Wagoneer will be the lower – albeit stacked – trim level, while the Grand Wagoneer offers more premium features. Both trims are expected to come in either standard or extended wheelbases, with the latter providing a bit more legroom and cargo space.

Both vehicles have a third-row for a capacity of up to seven passengers. Otherwise, Jeep hasn’t released much information about the Wagoneer yet, so we can’t give very specific details of what the SUV will include. However, you can expect it to be on the lower end of the two vehicles’ price range.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Jeep has given some insight into what the new Grand Wagoneer will include. One of its most exciting features is the single-pane glass roof that gives all passengers a clear view of the outdoors. LED lighting and eye-catching emblems and chrome accents make the Grand Wagoneer quite a sight on the road.

Inside, the Grand Wagoneer is going to be both plush and tech-forward. Detailed contrast-stitched leather seating and wood accents grace the interior, while a large infotainment center provides touchscreen access to navigation, audio, and more. The Grand Wagoneer will also feature a passenger touchscreen center for additional control to help drivers keep their focus on the road.

Perhaps most notable for the Grand Wagoneer is its optional plug-in hybrid system as Jeep resolves to move into greener territory with its vehicles. The manufacturer hasn’t released details about the hybrid system’s features, but there may be more than one powertrain option, with a 3.6-L V6 the likeliest for the Grand Wagoneer’s base engine. The SUV will also include Jeep’s Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System to choose between five drive modes, like Rock, Snow, and Auto.

No official pricing has been released for the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, but reports have mentioned that it is likely to cost over $100,000 when fully loaded.
